The fashion industry is one of the largest B2C sectors worldwide; it is naturally also very important for the global logistics industry. The market for fashion logistics was worth approximately EUR 96 billion last year; it has grown by an average of 4% annually over the pas few years. Logistics has thus also benefited mightily from growth in the fashion industry. The research experts from Transport Intelligence recently took a closer look at the close links between the fashion industry and logistics, and have now published a concomitant comprehensive white paper. Logistics benefits from fast fashion It's striking that the fashion logistics segment only really began to gather speed in the 21st century, which is down to the fashion industry itself undergoing two significant changes. First of all most production processes were moved to Asia, mainly China, which resulted in longer transport routes - and thus more opportunities for logisticians. Then the fashion industry 'invented fast fashion' - new designs that hit the market at ever shorter intervals. Whilst the so-called evergreens (items of clothing that are always needed and are thus always bought) are transported almost exclusively by sea, fast fashion is sent across the world in aeroplanes and lorries too.
