Bahrain wants to further develop its position as a transport hub on the Persian Gulf. Construction work at the country's new port of Khalifa Bin Salman is almost finished, and it is expected to go into service in December. The port will offer a 15 m depth of water, enabling it to accommodate all types of containerships. The capacity will be 2.5 million teu, which corresponds to around 66% of that offered by the port of Felixstowe (UK), sources in Bahrain said. APM Terminals is to operate the facility.
