The manufacturers of wooden packing materials, pallets and export packaging are developing away from being pure packaging producers and towards being export service providers for medium-sized enterprises. More than 100 companies are members of Germany's federal association for wooden packing materials, pallets and export packaging (Bundesverband Holzpackmittel, Paletten, Exportverpackung, HPE), and they offer their customers a range of services, such as the production of tailor-made packaging materials, warehousing logistics and dispatching goods of any dimension to destinations at home and abroad. More and more medium-sized and small German industrial manufacturers are achieving success in foreign markets. As they frequently do not have the requisite qualified in-house experts to dispatch their wares and deal with the concomitant formalities, not to mention a logistics division of their own, packaging companies frequently take over these tasks for them.
