A new child-resistant carton

There is great demand for child-resistant packaging, according to statistics published by the European Child Safety Alliance: 90% of 3,000 fatal poisonings in children under the age of 14 are recorded every year in Europe - as a result of poisoning in the domestic environment. «Locked 4 Kids» is the first re-closable child-resistant carton for use in pharmaceutical packaging. In order to produce the carton its Dutch manufacturer, Ecobliss, relies on a special cartoning solution from Romaco Promatic. The innovative cartons are equipped with special blister trays which have two small hooks along their longitudinal sides. Thanks to these diagonally-mounted hooks, the trays click firmly into place inside the carton. In order to remove them, the locking mechanism of the two hooks must be simultaneously released. This is achieved by applying an equal amount of pressure to the labelled points on the carton, using your thumb and index finger. Whilst this is an extremely simple task for adults, it is impossible for children: their small hands are not wide enough for them to use their fingers to reach and release both the pressure points at the same time. To make sure that a child does not simply come up with the idea of just ripping the carton open, a tear-resistant laminate layer has been applied to both sides.
