MTA approves $US 17bn 2020 budget

THE New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) board approved the agency's $US 17bn 2020 budget and four-year financial plan on December 18, which includes a surplus between 2019 and 2021 but warns of a deficit in 2022 and 2023, which will worsen if the authority does not complete its transformation plan. The plan projects surpluses of $US 143m in 2019, $US 11m in 2020 and $US 33m in 2021, with projected deficits of $US 212m in 2022 and $US 426m in 2023.
