BRITAIN'S HS2 project to develop a 338km highspeed line between London, Birmingham, Leeds, and Manchester is set to be delayed by up to five years to 2031 and cost an additional £20bn. Transport secretary, Mr Grant Shapps, confirmed that Mr Allan Cook, chairman of HS2 Ltd, the company overseeing the development of the project, does not believe that the scheme is deliverable within the current budget of £55.7bn at 2015 prices or that the current schedule for the start of services on phase one in 2026 is realistic.
