Details are given of a unit for the production of thin profiled polymer strips. The unit contains an extruder with a plane sheeting head, driven cooling and profiling rolls, a drive-connected roll, a freely rotating roll, rubber-coated pulling rolls, a chute and a trimming unit. As the polymer passes through the roll gap, the following processes occur: deformation of the polymer in the roll gap and the production of accurate profile on the strip; a change in the aggregate state of the polymer transition from the viscous flow state to a solid state under the action of the two effects of cooling and crystallisation. This work examines the processes of deformation and cooling of the polymer in the roll gap. Equations are presented for the solution to the relationship between the dimensions of the strip leaving the extrusion head and the required dimensions of the finished product and the process of cooling. 6 refs.
