China's Environmental Challenges

Over the past 30 years, China has entered its most rapid stage of economic development; however, the social and environmental cost of economic development has dragged China to the brink of environmental crisis. In her book China's Environmental Challenges, Shapiro (2012) draws upon a wide spectrum of frames such as environmental studies, political science, and human geography to examine China's environmental challenges from inside out and judge its situations in specific time and space. Shapiro raises thoughtful questions with respect to China's sustainability, resource consumption, and actions and reactions of the bureaucrats and civil society towards environmental incidents in each chapter.
