In this book, Jiirgen Mettepenningen, research fellow at the Catholic University of Louvain, presents an introduction to nouvelle theologie, the Catholic renewal movement of the decades leading up to the Second Vatican Council (1962-5). In a short period of time, Mettepenningen has established himself as an expert in this area, previously publishing Piet Schoonenberg's 1948 dissertation a few years ago (2008). As author of a number of carefully researched historical essays on nouvelle theologie, Mettepenningen draws together in this book much of his previous research and presents us with a helpful overview of the main characters and controversies involved.
