Within the world of theological book reviews, a sphere largely responsible for the reception of new ideas found in recent publications, it initially seems rather odd to review a work that has been available and well known for the best part of five centuries: Calvin's Institution de la religion chretienne. Such a topic appears more unusual still when one notes that the review concerns what is essentially a French translation of a French book. Closer inspection of this second observation, however, demonstrates that this edition of the Institutes deserves attention amidst the flood of topically new publications.
