摘要

Neutron and photon sources offer unique possibilities with the complementary use of their radiation for structure analyses of advanced engineering materials. Neutron and photons delivered by a spoliation source or a reactor, respectively, a synchrotron radiation source, provide information about materials' mierostructures in the near-surface region and in the bulk of components nondestructively. Compared to conventional laboratory X-rays, the achievable spatial resolution and in-depth information can be increased by up to several orders of magnitude by using synchrotron radiation and neutrons. The new possibilities for microstructure analyses for advanced materials and multimaterial systems meet with increasing demands from the materials engineering point of view.
