The institutions that keep the historical and cultural records of our nations - public and private libraries, public records offices, newspaper archives, for example- do a largely unsung job in storing our documents. However, more than ensuring that those records are kept in good condition, the same institutions are also responsible for making sure that those documents will remain accessible via future technologies and - nowadays -for making them available to everyone at almost any location.
