Missing From U.S. Intelligence Analysis: The Concept of 'Total U.S.'

The United States may be thought as an unconscious celestial body pulsating with power and projecting particles of itself throughout the universe. Like that image, the U.S. is in reality a powerful presence in the world. While the American Intelligence Community (IC) appreciates that the U.S. is a superpower, something is missing in its thinking. The IC does not appear to internalize the U.S. as a unified entity-as the international phenomenon it is.
