According to its official Website, the United States National Intelligence Council (NIC): 1.1 Leads the effort of the Intelligence Community (IC) to produce National Intelligence Estimates and other documents; 1.2 Supports (and reports to) the Director of National Intelligence; 1.3 Serves as a focal point for policymakers' questions; 1.4 Contributes to the effort to allocate intelligence community resources in response to policy changes, but not to initiate or intentionally bring about policy changes; 1.5 Communicates with experts in academia and the private sector to broaden the IC's perspective.
