The prominent position discussions of the "Cloud" have taken in the provision of viable new-generation solutions for both private and public information management is well reported. It is therefore essential for information management practitioners to understand what cloud computing means, be wary of the accompanying "hype", the potential disruption it may cause, be aware of what cloud computing cannot offer and, perhaps crucially, be cognisant of the security threats it could pose.
