Nam Leuk hydro project overcomes challenges

The Nam Leuk hydro project is an essential component of the strategy adopted by the Government of the Lao PDR for the power sub-sector, to achieve the Government's social and economic objectives. There were initial construction delays at the site, but following action plans initiated by one financier and acceleration measures put together by the Owner and the Engineer, the project was put back on track, and has now been in operation for a year and a half, meeting its production targets. This article gives an overview of the scheme and its implementation, focusing particularly on the measures taken to ensure timely implementation of the scheme, project costs, economic aspects, and environmental and social benefits.
