The art of engineering small and medium private hydro projects

Hydroelectric projects are complex and involve many facets of engineering. The private sector must play a greater role in future hydro development, and to minimize risks, they will tend to focus on hydro projects in the range of 20 to 200 MW, which can be implemented within three years. Successful implementation of hydro projects requires effective and innovative approaches to engineering. However, the private sector generally focuses on minimizing upfront, at-risk engineering efforts. This article explores the art of engineering within this framework.
