Emergency measures control a major incident at Toddbrook reservoir, UK

An emergency response to a major reservoir safety incident occurred between 1 and 7 August at Toddbrook reservoir in the northwest of England. Approximately 1500 residents of the town of Whaley Bridge were evacuated, when part of the auxiliary spillway was damaged during a flood event. A temporary repair to the spillway was completed using a helicopter to help place fill in an erosion hole which had formed in the upper part of the downstream shoulder. The reservoir was substantially drained using the permanent outlets, supplemented by pumps. It has now been declared sufficiently safe to allow the residents to return.
