Sri Lanka's state power utility, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), invites sealed bids from eligible bidders by 3 April for the engineering, detailed design, manufacture, supply, testing before shipment, installation and commissioning of the mechanical and electrical equipment for the 30 MW Moragolla hydropower project on the river Mahaweli, in the central province. The run-of-river project is planned to comprise a 35 m-high gravity dam, which will impound the river Mahaweli at Weliganga, creating a reservoir with a maximum storage capacity of 1.98 × 10~6 m~3. The powerhouse will be equipped with two Francis turbines with a gross installed capacity of 30 MW, capable of generating average annual output of around 85 GWh. The contract will be financed by the Asian Development Bank, which has provided US$ 113.86 million under the Green Power Development and Energy Efficiency Improvement Investment Programme, Tranche 1. Bids for the main civil works contract, consisting of the construction of the dam, intake, headrace tunnel, surge tank, penstock, powerhouse and tailrace were invited in August 2018 (see H&D Issue 4, 2018).
