Electrochemical processes in industrial applications often make extensive use of energy. The electrochemical production of sodium chlorate alone, for instance, requires approximately 5000-6000 kWh of electricity per ton produced [1]. A better understanding of the fluid dynamics in the electrochemical cell, therefore, can represent a crucial step towards the construction of more cost-effective industrial set-ups. For this reason, an increasing number of studies dedicated to the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling of electrochemical cells have appeared in the literature in recent years [2-6].
