摘要

Since a couple of decades, archaeological science is making use of latest technological developments in physics and engineering. The radiocarbon dating method, developed in the 1940 (and honored with the Nobel Price to Willard Libby in 1960), has in many cases changed the understanding of archaeological artifacts (in case they include biomass) and therewith supported historical analysis. Next to nuclear physics, space technology is one of the icons of science and engineering for the last 50 years. Archaeology and historical science are more and more making benefit of technologies and data deployed and coming from above the atmosphere of our planet (needless to say that information technology and computing has also changed the way science is done, not only in archaeology).
