Corrosion-fatigue life assessment of RC plate girder in heavy-haul railway under combined carbonation and train loads

Fatigue performance of RC plate girder was experimentally investigated. A corrosion-fatigue life assessment approach of railway RC girders under combined carbonation and train loads was proposed. The proposed approach was applied to an 8 m-span RC plate girder in an existing heavy-haul railway bridge, and the effects of annual freight volume, train axle weight, and carbonation environment level on corrosion-fatigue life were analyzed. Results indicate that annual freight volume, train axle weight, and carbonation environment level have a significant impact on corrosion-fatigue life, which can decrease the remaining corrosion-fatigue life by up to 48.71%, 91.11%, and 60.90%, respectively.
