The objective of this study was to evaluate the cold flow properties of rice bran oil methyl ester as biodiesel and blends of bio diesel with diesel. An experimental pour point enhancer, MERBO (Methyl Ester of Rice bran oil), was mixed at the rate of 0%, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.5%, 0.75%, 0.85%, 1% and 2% by volume with B100, B80, B60, B40, B20, B15, B10 and 100% diesel. Diesel engines emit substantial amounts of oxides of nitrogen (NOX) and fine particles (PM) which contribute to respiratory disease and cancer. Diesel trucks, and off-road diesel equipment, contribute similar amounts of these two pollutants. Emission tests were conducted from diesel engine under varying load conditions by using different blends of bio diesel fuel. A series of engine test provide adequate and relevant information that the bio diesel can be used as an alternative, environmental friendly fuel in existing diesel engines without modification in the engine hardware.
