Automated systems are useful tools for aiding situation assessment in complex environments such as military battlefields and emergency evacuations. These environments include large amounts of information, including integration of judgment decisions, assessments, and human behavior characteristics. In a battlefield environment, effective commanders utilize information regarding various tactical parameters such as location of an enemy outpost, minefields, number of soldiers in platoons, barriers, environmental factors (terrain, smoke), and psychological factors (stress and panic). The above factors aid commanders in understanding the impact of human behavior in making control decisions. Several techniques are currently being implemented to meet the needs of soldiers on the battlefield. The objective of this paper is to develop some intelligent techniques which could help commanders make appropriate decisions in emergency situations. In this paper we describe a fuzzy logic approach to predicting the probability of a soldier reaching a target under the influence of stress and panic attributes in the context of a battlefield simulation. The important parameters needed for such simulations are stress and panic, which are defined through the use of fuzzy logic. The suggested technique utilizes these parameters and determines the probability of reaching a target. It is hoped that these results will be helpful to commanders in making appropriate decisions in emergency situations on the battlefield.
