摘要

Motivated by the lack of research that integrates social, linguistic, and ideological issues within multiethnic contexts, Migge and Leglise employ a multifaceted bottom-up methodology in order to analyze the use of Takitaki in different in-group and out-group social contexts. While focusing their analysis on Maroon groups' interlingual and exolingual interactions, they contend that effectively documenting languages such as Takitaki requires an examination of linguistic practices of different groups that coexist: e.g. Amerindians, metropolitan French, and Maroons. The authors bolster this contention by analysing how native and nonnative speakers in French Guiana use Takitaki in an array of interactional contexts to determine the extent to which language attitude, language use, and social contexts complement each other. The volume is divided into nine chapters which all provide substantial historical background information necessary for understanding language-related intricacies of multiethnic societies: Chapter 1 'Introduction'; Chapter 2 'The political, social and linguistic contexts of French Guiana'; Chapter 3 'The Maroons: historical and anthropological notes'; Chapter 4 'What's in the name Takitaki? Investigating linguistic ideologies'; Chapter 5 'The social profiles of some Takitaki speakers: the data for this study'; Chapter 6 'Towards the linguistic structure of Takitaki: an analysis of Takitaki practices'; Chapter 7 'Communicating in Takitaki: Maroons and non-Maroons in interaction'; Chapter 8 'Linguistic practices among urban Maroons'; and Chapter 9 'On Takitaki and its insights.'
