Sticky problems for conservators of works of art on paper

摘要

Modern conservation ethics require that any repair carried out to a work of art should be removable at a later date without damage to the object. This paper discusses some of the traditional adhesives used by conservators of works of art on paper, highlights some of the problems caused by the use of pressure-sensitive tapes, Cow Gum~® and hot-melt adhesives, and outlines some of the novel techniques which have been devised using modern synthetic products.
