A human resources executive at a major national employer recently relayed this story: A company employee with fundamentalist Christian beliefs e-mailed the company's HR. department to report that he was being discriminated against. The company's employee relations department investigated the matter, curious to learn the basis for the complaint. Denied time off for religious holidays, perhaps? No. Subjected to demeaning comments from people with different beliefs, maybe? Not that either. In fact, the Christian employee believed that the company was creating a hostile work environment for him by providing domestic partner benefits to gay and lesbian employees and by publicly supporting a "gay pride" event in the local community.
