Uzbek GTL plant to cut oil, flaring

Uzbekistan's planned gas-to-liquids plant at Shurtan will reduce its dependence on oil and should also help it to reduce gas flaring, Uzbek and foreign specialists said May 14 in Tashkent. The 1.37 million mt/year plant is planned to be operational in 2014, with a subsequent naphtha cracking plant coming on line between 2015 and 2017, a senior official of the Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex told Platts.rnSGCC Director Alisher Sultanov said a substitute source for 100,000 mt/year of oil had to be found. "We are interested in searching for alternative sources for fossil fuels," he said, adding that "GTL technology is becoming very relevant."
