Russia, China renew gas talks

Russia and China are raising the tempo again on gas supplies. Gazprom said February 27 it had agreed to intensify talks with China's CNPC, with the aim of reaching an agreement for a long-awaited sale and purchase contract by the end of the year. China has also expressed an interest in the Vladivostok LNG plant, which the Russian monopoly decided to proceed with last month (IGR 718/30). Gazprom would partly mitigate the risks as it plans to use the same route for supplies of gas to the planned Vladivostok LNG plant.
