Innovative development: detecting six tree nuts in one single test

Towards the end of 2014, European Food Information for Consumers Regulations (EU FIC) came into effect requiring food producers to make changes to labelling on both pre-packed and loosely sold food to emphasise 14 key allergens when used as ingredients. The aim was for these changes to provide allergen information in a clearer way, making it easier for consumers to make safer food choices when buying food or dining out. Amongst the 14 allergens that require to be labelled are tree nuts including almond, hazelnut, walnut, pecan, cashew and pistachio. With this in mind, Neogen has just launched a new rapid on-site lateral flow, Reveal for Multi-Treenut, which can simultaneously detect the presence of these six tree nuts in a single test. When you consider that this takes place within just 10 minutes following extraction, potential time and resource savings are obvious.
