The abrupt departure of Hugh "Skip" McGee has raised questions about the future of Barclays in the US, coming after months of tensions - both internally and with shareholders - over bankers' pay in New York and just a week before the bank unveils its long-term plans for the business. As chief executive of the Americas, McGee was Barclays' most senior banker on that side of the Atlantic. He was also the most senior of the bankers acquired through Barclays' purchase of Lehman Brothers' domestic operations after the US bank's bankruptcy in 2008.
