Dollar market to bloom in April

Dollar bond issuance out of Asia ex-Japan slowed markedly this month, but bankers expect a turnround in April with transactions seen reaching as much as US$19bn. Bankers estimate about 20 mandates could turn into deals, which would be good news after a sluggish March. Only US$8.94bn of dollar bonds were sold this month, compared with US$17.85bn in March 2013 and less than the US$15.17bn sold in March 2012, according to Thomson Reuters data. A syndicate banker in Hong Kong was surprised to learn the figures were so low. "We only printed US$9bn? It has been a slow month, but things will pick up in April," he said.
