Scepticism greets China's first Green bond

China took a tentative first step into the fast-growing Green bond market last week with a modestly sized, credit-enhanced deal for a wind turbine manufacturer. XINJIANG COLDWIND SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY priced a US$300m three-year bond last Thursday, using a standby letter of credit from Bank of China's Macau branch to attract investors in a market still recovering from the turmoil of Greece's bailout negotiations. The transaction adds to a growing universe of climate-aligned investments in Asia, and follows similar offerings in India, Taiwan, Australia and South Korea.
