Morgan Stanley signals end to FIC cuts

Morcan stanley has signalled that more than three years of deep cuts to its fixed income and commodities trading business may finally be nearing an end, with bosses indicating that they might be willing to redeploy dollars in the business as positions roll off. The FIC franchise accounted for just US$188bn of risk-weighted assets at the end of last year, less than half the level of three years ago. That will fall to less than US$180bn by the end of the year, with an additional US$25bn set to be freed up as more positions go.
