Smaller banks feel equity trading squeeze

Small banks and brokerages scrapping for a share of equity trading revenue are finding it tougher to compete as large banks extend their dominance. As revenue from fixed income trading plummeted over the last five years, universal banks turned to equity trading to plug the gap. Some of that revenue has come at the expense of smaller banks and brokerages.
