UK is biggest buyer of EU SURE bonds

Investors based in the United Kingdom have emerged as the largest buyers of the EUROPEAN UNION'S bonds under the Support to mitigate Unemployment Risks in an Emergency (SURE) programme, hoovering up almost a quarter of the issuance for the recovery fund created to provide support to the bloc's labour market in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. With €53.5bn now raised for SURE - comfortably over half of the €90.3bn of loans approved so far by the European Council - UK-based investors have received a 23% allocation, according to the Ell's most recent investor presentation. Germany is next with 19.7% and France third with 12.5%.
