GE sale closes chapter on GE Capital

GENERAL ELECTRIC'S captive finance company, GE Capital, is on the verge of disappearing years after the size and scope of the business made it and a handful of companies "systemically important" entities worthy of regulation by the Federal Reserve. GE Capital was able to rid itself of Fed oversight nearly five years ago by exiting most financial services. Last week, the company sold one of the last remaining large businesses as Ireland's AerCap agreed to take GE Capital Aviation Services, a top lender in aviation leasing for aircraft, engines and helicopters.
