Activist Sherborne sticks to Barclays shake-up plan

Activist investor SHERBORNE INVESTMENTS said it plans to stick with its investment in BARCLAYS and attempt to force a change in strategy "for as long as it appears to be appropriate" despite a tough first half of the year for its bet. Sherborne started investing in Barclays in March 2018 and has increased its stake this year to 5.9%. But Barclays' shares fell about 36% in the six months to the end of June, cutting Sherborne's net asset value by the same amount to £351m (US$459m). Barclays shares have slipped further since the end of June. "The investment manager's present intention is to continue its dialogue with Barclays for as long as it appears to be appropriate to do so," Sherborne said in a regulatory filing.
