Asian offshore bond issuance ground to a halt early last week, as a sudden decline in the renminbi and a further worsening of US-China relations shook global markets. On Monday morning, China allowed its currency to drop below Rmb7 to the US dollar, its lowest level since the global financial crisis, causing some other emerging market currencies such as the Indian rupee, Indonesian rupiah and South Korean Won to sell off in response.
