A turnaround in risk sentiment encouraged banks to hit the senior European market last week but the glut of supply combined with heightened concerns around Brexit and trade wars hampered performance, leaving investors nursing losses. In what was the biggest week for issuance in euros and sterling since early April, almost €14.4bn-equivalent was issued across asset classes. In senior alone, €8.25bn was printed, with the majority of the supply emerging on Tuesday.
