While some stability in the US equity markets opened windows for high-grade borrowers last week and pushed volumes higher, an underlying pessimism continues to hang over credit. Twenty-four issuers raised US$20.7bn last week, up from just over US$6bn the prior week, but deal sizes were muted and borrowers had to give up concessions to price amid weaker demand.
