For polyester fiber producers everywhere the market remains extremely difficult, and it is unlikely to improve as a result of the Chinese stimulus package. The official production data for China has become increasingly erratic, but it appears that polyester output there might be running as much as 2-6% up on last year, in spite of local textile mill activity running much more slowly. The latest forecast from PCI Fibres (in the current Textile Pipeline Special) puts polyester fiber production in China up just over 1% this year with mill demand up just under 1%. The net outflow of filament and staple is thus put at 680 ktons compared with 580 ktons in 2008.
