Australian State Introduces Bill to Require Energy Retailers to Report Efficiency Gains

A bill introduced Oct. 31 into the Parliament of the Australian state of Victoria would require energy retailers to acquire and annually surrender to the government certificates demonstrating they have supported energy efficiency measures delivering specified levels of greenhouse gas abatement. The tradeable certificates would be created through approved energy efficiency activities in the household sector. These would include measures such as installing energy-efficient appliances and modifying homes to make them more energy-efficient.
