EU Report Urges New Policy Approach, Warns of Threat From Household Chemicals

Brussels—A European Union-backed research group June 8 published a report showing an ongoing "serious state of decline" in Europe's seas. Researchers from the European Lifestyles and Marine Ecosystems (ELME) project warned that EU environmental policies are not addressing this decline because they "largely disregard the integral nature of large marine ecosystems." According to the ELME final report, however, the European Commission has recognized the deficiency and is developing an appropriate marine strategy.
