Former Head of U.N. Climate Secretariat To Head Post-2012 Kyoto Protocol Talks

Washington, D.C.—A former head of the United Nations Climate Secretariat, Michael Zammit Cutajar, has been selected to lead international talks on how to best curb greenhouse gas emissions when the initial compliance period of the Kyoto Protocol ends in 2012, the office of the secretariat announced May 18.rnZammit Cutajar will chair a panel of international leaders, known as the Ad Hoc Working Group, that hopes to build a consensus toward a post-2012 agreement addressing questions including whether developing nations such as China and India should face mandatory cuts in their own greenhouse gas emissions.
