Half Of Eu Countries Expected To Exceed 2010 Emission Caps For Nitrogen Oxides

Only half of the European Union's member states expect to meet a 2010 deadline to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides, the European Environment Agency said Dec. 1. According to data and forecasts reported by EU countries in 2007, 13 countries will meet the target and 13 will not. The countries expected to be in compliance are Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, and Slovakia. Countries expected to exceed the caps are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
