Experts Say Madagascar's Turtles Vanishing; Call on Government to Curb Illegal Hunting

Wildlife experts meeting recently in Madagascar's capital, Antananarivo, warned that rare species of tortoises and turtles in this African island are at very high risk of extinction. Meeting under the auspices of the World Conservation Union and the Wildlife Conservation Society in a workshop Jan. 14-17, the experts called on the government of Madagascar to enact laws to protect those ancient animals.
