IEA Chief Favors Expanding Membership To Include China, India, Possibly Russia

The head of the International Energy Agency said Sept. 15 that he strongly favors bringing China, India, and possibly Russia into the 28-member organization, even if it means changing IEA rules.rnExecutive Director Nobuo Tanaka told reporters that "I am very much in favor of getting these countries into the IEA, because to keep our organization relevant in terms of energy security or energy efficiency technologies, these countries must work as closely as possible with us, and membership is the ultimate status of their working with the same responsibilities and same obligations as IEA members."
