More Resources Needed to Calculate Risks, Facilitate Climate-Related Insurance Coverage

A group of insurance companies June 9 called for delegates working on a post-Kyoto Protocol climate change agreement to dedicate additional resources toward calculating risk and facilitating insurance coverage of climate-related problems.rnThe Munich Climate Insurance Initiative, which joins about two dozen major insurance and reinsurance companies and multilateral organizations, said issues related to insurance so far have been underemphasized in the climate change debate. Officials, speaking on the sidelines of the 30th Session of the Subsidiary Bodies to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Bonn, said that stressing the importance of insurance would aid efforts to help poor countries adapt to the effects of climate change.
