U.S. Discusses Logging Commitments Made by Peru Under Free Trade Agreement

U.S. and Peruvian officials met April 13-17 in Peru to continue discussions on logging commitments made in a forestry annex to their bilateral free trade agreement, known as the U.S.-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement (PTPA), the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative announced April 22.rnUSTR led the U.S. delegation, which met with Peruvian entities charged with implementing the country's logging commitments, including the ministries of trade, environment, and agriculture; OSINFOR, the supervisory entity for forestry and wildlife; and regional government representatives.rnUSTR said that Peru has undertaken "unprecedented changes" to its legal and regulatory regimes to implement its environmental obligations.
